Power Outages Reported Following Snowstorm in Schuylkill County

Tremont and West Mahanoy Township reporting the most outages.

Nearly 2,000 homes and businesses served by PPL Electric are without power right now in Schuylkill County.

A majority of the outages are being reported in Tremont and West Mahanoy Township. According to the PPL Electric Outage Map, the cause of the outages is listed as “Weather”.

As of 1 p.m., there are 1,871 outages in Schuylkill County. Of those, 1,115 are being reported in Tremont and 668 are coming from West Mahanoy Township.

Isolated outages are also being reported in Cass Township (53), Kline Township (13), and in North Union, Union, and Washington townships.

Restoration times provided by PPL on their outage map indicate it may be until Sunday until power is restored to customers in Tremont.

According to West Mahanoy Township officials, power is likely to be restored there by 7 p.m. Friday.

According to Jane George, a PPL spokeswoman, more than 83,000 people serviced by the company in northeast and central Pennsylvania have lost power since the start of this winter storm. Of those, 23,000 have already had power restored.

George says the company’s emergency response plan has been activated and PPL is using around-the-clock crews to restore power to those affected. No outside contractors have been brought in to get power restored as of Friday afternoon.

She added that the majority of PPL Electric customers in the dark right now will have their service restored by the end of the day Saturday.

“We expect this to be a multi-day restoration effort,” she says.
