Blue Mountain’s Nate Nabholz is making the most of the opportunity he got earlier this summer.
On June 18, the San Francisco Giants purchased Nabholz’ contract from the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Frontier League, an MLB Partner League. A little more than a month later, after initially being assigned to the Giants Low-A team in San Jose, Nabholz was promoted to the High-A Eugene Emeralds.
Since the Giants organization selected his contract from the Tri-City ValleyCats, Nabholz has been spectacular on the mound. Across both levels with San Jose and Eugene, Nabholz has a 3-0 record with 1 save and an overall ERA of 2.43. He’s recorded 18 strikeouts over 29.2 innings.
Since his call-up to High-A Eugene, Nabholz has has been a shut-down reliever, posting a 0.77 ERA. He’s appeared in 5 games, getting the win in 2 of those appearances. He’s allowed just 1 earned run and scattered 10 hits over 11.2 innings. He’s struck out 6 opponents while walking just 2.
Playoff Baseball
The Northwest League is coming to a close in a few weeks. Nabholz’ Emeralds have just one more full series of regular season play next week. Because they were first-half champions, that means the Ems will be playing in the best-of-five League Championship Series, which is scheduled to begin Sept. 9 against the Everett Aqua Sox (Mariners).
