Pine Grove once again honored its longtime boys soccer coach Saturday by opening the 2026 campaign with a tournament named after him.
Mark Wyllie coached the Cardinals for 29 years. He passed away following a battle with cancer in 2020.
On Saturday, Pine Grove Area hosted Schuylkill Haven Area, Bangor Area, and Berks Catholic.
The hosts shared tournament champion honors with Bangor following a 0-0 draw in the final.
Earlier in the day, the Cardinals defeated Berks Catholic, 2-0, to reach the final. Pine Grove tallied both its goals in the second half, the first of which came off an own goal 12 minutes after halftime.
Terrin Witmer deposited an insurance goal in the back of the net for Pine Grove Area 15 minutes later.
Haven Tops Saints in Consolation Match

After falling to Bangor in the first round, 2-0, the Hurricanes regrouped for its Consolation match with the Saints.
Landon Trostle converted on a penalty kick in the first half and Greyson Murphy added an insurance goal in the second for a 2-0 win.
Eliot Wehr was given the team’s Player of the Match honor for making several key saves in goal and preserving the clean sheet.
