A Schuylkill County man is facing charges after a methed up traffic stop in Port Carbon last month.
According to information released this week by State Police-Schuylkill Haven, this traffic stop happened at Lang and Pike streets in Port Carbon at a little after 7:30 on the morning of Nov. 22.
Police pulled over a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Marcus McCabe, of Port Carbon. McCabe was arrested on a DUI charge.
However, during this traffic stop, a passenger in McCabe’s Ford Focus was found to be in possession of some meth. Police seized the meth but the passenger, 37-year-old Shawn Tobin, of Middleport, had a daring, albeit short-sighted idea.
Police say Tobin grabbed the meth out of the Trooper’s hands, ingested it, and then fled the scene on foot. The dash didn’t last long, police say, and Tobin was arrested and arraigned before District Magistrate David Plachko.
Tobin now faces a felony charge of evading arrest and several misdemeanor charges.
Court records don’t show any charges filed against McCabe but police say the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
