A Schuylkill County man and woman face assault and corruption of minors charges after police say they involved a juvenile in a violent altercation last month.
Rashawn Howard, 40, and Mariah Melissa Maloney, 30, both of Pottsville, are each charged with one misdemeanor count of corruption of minors and one misdemeanor count of simple assault.
Police say they responded to the area of S. 2nd Str. and Howard Ave. at a little after noon on Aug. 17 for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers observed a large group engaged in a physical altercation in the parking lot of 118 S. 2nd St.
According to police, surveillance camera footage from a nearby parking garage showed Howard confronting the victim. Howard, police say, initiated the fight by punching the victim several times.
Police allege Howard and a juvenile held the victim while continuing to hit him. Maloney, identified by police as Howard’s girlfriend, was also seen in the footage grabbing the victim by the hair and hitting him in the face.
The victim sustained lacerations to the right side of his nose and suffered a bloody finger after he was bitten by Howard, police say.
Howard and Maloney are scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley for preliminary hearings on Oct. 12.
