A Schuylkill County man was jailed last week after police say he dragged his grandmother into a home and beat her over a dispute about a ride to a hardware store.
Michael Greco Jr., 24, of Hegins, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of simple assault, one misdemeanor count of recklessly endangering another person, and summary offenses of harassment and disorderly conduct following an incident on the evening of June 24.
Police say they were dispatched to a residence in Hegins Township at about 7:15 p.m. for a report of an active domestic dispute. The caller was reportedly hiding inside a bathroom, whispering for help.
Upon arrival, police met with Greco outside the home. Greco told police that he and his grandmother had been arguing about his unemployment, but claimed the dispute had not turned physical.
Police then spoke with the victim inside the residence. The victim told police that Greco became angry because she did not have enough gas to take him to a hardware store. She alleged that while they were behind the house, Greco grabbed her by the arms, dragged her inside through a back door, and continued to drag her around the bathroom floor.
During the altercation, the victim alleged Greco struck her in the head with open hands and whipped her with towels.
Police say they saw multiple bruises on both of the victim’s arms and two bleeding lacerations on her right hand, which the victim said occurred when her skin tore while she was being dragged.
When police went back outside to re-interview Greco, he admitted to hitting his grandmother that evening and indicated that blood stains on his shirt were from her injuries, police say.
Greco was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer later that night and committed to Schuylkill County Prison after failing to post a nominal $1 bail. A preliminary hearing before Judge Christian Lengel is scheduled for July 2.
