Police in Minersville say they assisted in removing 71 cats from a home in the borough. The home was condemned.
According to Minersville Police Chief Jeff Bowers, the homeowner – identified as Timothy Barnes – was living in deplorable conditions, with floors, walls, and furniture soaked in cat urine and covered in feces.
Borough Police and Code Enforcement served a search warrant on the home at 232 Twin St. on Tuesday.
River Run Veterinary Hospital, Forever Home Animal Rescue, Ruth Steinert SPCA, and a humane officer assisted in removing the cats from Barnes’ home. All the cats were taken to River Run for further treatment and assessment.
Minersville condemned the home due to extreme health risks, police say.
Charges against Barnes are pending in District Court from the Borough Police and Humane Society Police.
