A Schuylkill County man who eluded police in a tractor-trailer and then ran into the woods earlier this year has been apprehended.
Shortly before 11 a.m. on June 26, Troopers from State Police-Schuylkill Haven say they responded to a home in Porter Township to serve a warrant on Lee Dubois, 46. As they showed up on the scene, they’d received word that Dubois had returned to that property on a four-wheeler sometime earlier that morning.
Police knocked on the door of the property but no one answered.
After contacting the property owner and receiving permission to enter the premises, police say they made entry on the eastern side of the home. Dubois ran out of a door on the southern side of the residence and was captured.
Police say Dubois struggled with them as they attempted to take him into custody and multiple Troopers were needed to subdue him. A search of his person revealed an orange straw with white residue inside, police say.
Dubois was arraigned on the afternoon of June 26 and charged with evading arrest, a third-degree felony, along with misdemeanor offenses of resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Magistrate District Judge David Rossi set bail at $50,000 cash, which hasn’t been posted and Dubois remains in Schuylkill County Prison.
Dubois has been on the run since March 7, when police attempted to serve an arrest warrant on him in relation to an aggravated assault by vehicle charge in connection with a July 2024 incident.
Police attempted to serve that warrant on Dubois at a trucking business located in Tremont Township, after they learned that Dubois had been staying there.
From an open garage bay, police say a tractor-trailer began backing out and Dubois was behind the wheel. Police learned that Dubois did have permission to be at the garage to work on vehicles but did not have permission to stay there or drive a vehicle.
Dubois led police on a vehicle pursuit on Route 209 to E. Franklin St. in Frailey Township before attempting to drive the truck up a pole line. The vehicle became stuck and Dubois fled out the passenger side door and ran into the woods.
Police gave up their foot pursuit a short time later, citing conditions in the area.
From that March incident, Dubois is also facing felony fleeing and flight to avoid apprehension charges as well as misdemeanor offenses of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and evading arrest, along with summary charges of driving without a CDL and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
In relation to the July 2024 incident, Dubois is looking at felony aggravated assault by vehicle charges along with misdemeanors for reckless endangerment and simple assault and a raft of summary driving offenses.
A preliminary hearing on all charges is scheduled for the coming week before Rossi.
