Schuylkill County Woman Charged with Kicking, Spitting on Nurses, Spitting on Corrections Officer

A Schuylkill County woman is currently in prison after she allegedly kicked and spit on Nurses at a local hospital and then spit on a corrections officer.

According to court documents, police in Pottsville were sent to a home in the 400 block of Washington St. on the evening of June 22 for a report of an assault.

During that assault incident, one of the people involved – Shayla Hosler, 25, of Pottsville – suffered a lacerated hand. The injury required hospital treatment and Hosler was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville.

While at the hospital, police describe Hosler as being uncooperative. She allegedly kicked a nurse, causing her considerable pain. Hospital staff placed Hosler in restraints and police say that she remained uncooperative.

Police say they then witnessed Hosler spit in the face of a second nurse.

After she was released from the hospital, Hosler was taken for arraignment before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina, and eventually remanded to Schuylkill County Prison on $15,000 bail.

During intake at the prison, Hosler allegedly spit at a corrections officer, hitting him in the face.

At her preliminary hearings on Monday before District Magistrate Judge James Reiley, a charge of simple assault that stemmed from the incident that originally drew police to Washington St. that evening was withdrawn after the victim failed to appear.

However, Hosler is still being held on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated assault by a prisoner, all felonies. She waived her right to a preliminary hearing on that case on Monday.
