Holobetz Continues to Excel; Blankenhorn Rediscovers Power Stroke

Here is a weekly update on coal region natives in pro baseball.

Here is our regular roundup of Schuylkill County and other coal region players currently with Major League Baseball organizations or playing in an MLB Partner League in the 2025 season.

Let’s have a look at how our local players in the pros are doing so far in August:

John Holobetz (Pottsville Area) – Pitcher, Greenville Drive (Red Sox High A)

Holobetz has put up some impressive numbers for the Greenville Drive over four starts in June.

He’s posted a 2-1 record, striking out 25 batters and only walking 2. Holobetz has a 2.38 ERA in the month and his season ERA across all competition is just 3.14.

In his last outing, a no decision against the Rome Emperors (Braves), Holobetz worked 5 innings, allowing just 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 5 batters, in a 2-1 Drive loss.

Travis Blankenhorn (Pottsville Area) – OF/DH, Rocket City Trash Pandas (Angels Double A)

Blankenhorn returned to Double-A Rocket City on June 12 following a rehab assignment with the Arizona Complex League Angels earlier in the month.

After hitting his first homer of the 2025 season in Arizona, Blankenhorn seems to have found his power stroke once again. He’s swatted five home runs in the last week, including a two-home run night on Friday against the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays). That night, he went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in 3 runs

Including his time in Arizona, Blankenhorn is hitting .259 in June with 6 total home runs and 16 RBI.

Kaleb Sophy (Blue Mountain) – Pitcher, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (White Sox A)

Sophy has made five starts for the Cannon Ballers in June, going 0-2 for the month, while his team remains mired in a slump.

Over his 5 starts, Sophy has struck out 18 while walking 10 batters. His best outing came back on June 1, when he worked 5 innings, striking out 5 and walking none while scattering 6 hits to allow just a single run.

Joe Nahas (Marian Catholic) – Pitcher, Free Agent

Nahas was released by South Bend on June 22.

In the month of June, he made four relief appearances for the Cubs, posting a 1-1 record.  Nahas pitched 5 innings, striking out 5 and walking 1.

Thomas Schultz (Mount Carmel Area) – Pitcher, Harrisburg Senators (Nationals Double A)

Schultz has made nine relief appearances for the Senators in June, with a 3.09 ERA in that time.

He’s struck out 13 and walked 6 batters, allowing 9 hits and 4 runs over 11.2 innings.

For the 2025 season, Schultz is 1-1 with a 4.14 ERA and 2 saves.

Tom Reisinger (Mount Carmel Area) – Pitcher, Lansing Lugnuts (Athletics High A)

Reisinger has made six appearances out of the Lugnuts bullpen in June, posting a 1-0 record with a 3.60 ERA.

He’s struck out 7 batters while walking 8 and allowing 7 hits over 10 innings of work in June.

Reggie Crawford (North Schuylkill) – Pitcher, San Francisco Giants organization

Crawford is likely to miss the entire 2025 season after undergoing surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder back in September.

The procedure has a 10-12 month rehab period.

Brandon Schaeffer (Schuylkill Haven Area) – Pitcher, Everett AquaSox (Mariners High A)

Schaeffer was placed on the 60-day injured list by the AquaSox on March 18.

He has yet to make an appearance for the team in the 2025 season.
