Pottsville Area grad John Holobetz made the most of his first opportunity to pitch in front of a hometown crowd as a pro on Sunday.
His Portland Sea Dogs visited First Energy Stadium in Reading to take on the Fightin’ Phils in the final game of a six-game series. Getting the start in the game, Holobetz had his best outing of the 2026 season, picking up the win.
Holobetz worked 6 flawless innings, allowing just 3 hits and no runs while striking out 6 and walking 1. He earned the victory to up his W-L record on the season to 3-3.
His debut in front of a local crowd clearly showed he had a hankering for some home cooking. Holobetz’ appearance in Reading came after a pair of rough starts for the No. 12 prospect in the Red Sox organization.
Sunday’s outing also showed he likes facing Reading batters. In a start back on May 22 in Portland, Holobetz posted a nearly identical line, going 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, no runs. He struck out 6 in that game, too, and earned the win.

In his last five relief appearances, Schultz has continued the strong form he showed at the end of May.
Starting with a game against Reading and continuing through a Saturday appearance against Richmond Flying Squirrels, Schuylkill has gone 6.1 innings, allowing just 3 hits, and 1 run while strying out 8 and walking 3.
