Three people were airlifted from the scene of a multi-vehicle crash along Gordon Nagle Trail Thursday evening.
Just after 6 p.m., according to Pottsville Bureau of Police, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Gordon Nagle Trail for a reported crash.
Three vehicles were involved in the incident, according to police: a silver 2017 GMC Sierra, a tan 2004 Chevrolet Malibu hauling a wooden trailer, and a gray 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Based on their investigation of the crash, police say the Sierra was driven by 26-year-old Noah Shaak, of Pottsville, and had a total of six occupants inside. Shaak’s vehicle was traveling north on Gordon Nagle Trail and entered the southbound lane.
As the Sierra entered the southbound lane, police say it hit the trailer being hauled by the Malibu, which severely damaged the trailer and forced the Malibu off the road.
Shaak’s vehicle continued north in the southbound lane when it then hit the Grand Cherokee head-on, severely damaging both vehicles. Police say Shaak’s vehicle ignited in flames but was quickly extinguished by members of Pottsville Fire Dept., arriving on scene.
Three people involved in the crash had to be taken by medical helicopter from a landing zone established near the scene. Five others were taken to nearby hospitals for further medical attention, police say.
The conditions of everyone involved have not been released.
The State Police Forensics and Crash Reconstruction units are assisting Pottsville Police with their investigation of the crash, which remains ongoing.
