A Minersville man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to use bogus money to pay a municipal bill.
According to an affidavit filed by Minersville Police, the incident happened on Feb. 11 at Borough Hall. On that day, Bradley Stephens, 53, came in to pay a municipal bill for a home on Pottsville St.
Stephens allegedly handed over a pair of $100 bills to the Borough Office administrator to pay for the bill. Not only did an authentication pen reveal that the money might be fake, the word “COPY” was printed on each.
The borough employee confronted Stephens about the validity of his bills, he allegedly threw up his hands and walked away. At the time of the incident, Stephens reportedly had a strong smell of alcohol emitting from his body.
Police have charged Stephens with forgery, a second-degree felony, and a misdemeanor offense of receiving stolen property. A preliminary hearing in this case has been scheduled for April 1.
