It appears Travis Blankenhorn will be starting the 2025 baseball season south of the border.
On Friday, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos announced they’ve signed the Pottsville native ahead of the new season scheduled to begin in April.
Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos, or Two Laredos Owls, are unique in Liga Mexicana de Béisbol in that it’s the only binational team in the league. The team plays home games in Mexico and Texas.
The Owls play in the North Division of the Mexican League. One notable player on the current roster that may ring a bell is former Phillies infield Freddy Galvis.
Last season, Blankenhorn, 28, spent most of the year with the Washington Nationals Triple-A team, Rochester Red Wings, where he was named team MVP. In 94 games with the Red Wings last year, he hit 24 home runs and drove in 69 runs.
Toward the end of the regular season, Blankenhorn was promoted to the Nationals but struggled at the plate. He was sent back to Rochester, then designated for assignment, and eventually opted for free agency.
