The former Hazleton police officer who’s accused of detonating an explosive device outside the home of his estranged wife’s boyfriend in Kelayres, Kline Twp., Schuylkill County, will go on trial once again starting today.
Commonwealth v. Ladell Emory Hannon is scheduled to begin Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Courtroom 1 at Schuylkill County Courthouse. President Judge Jacqueline Russell is presiding over the case.
Schuylkill County ADA Michael Stine is representing the Commonwealth in the case. Hannon is being represented by Philadelphia attorney Mark Hinrichs.
A mistrial in the original trial was declared back in March after the defense argued the prosecution failed to present evidence to their side.
Hannon is accused of setting off an explosive device outside the Kelayres home of his ex-wife’s estranged boyfriend back in December 2021.
The bomb detonation sent one man, the boyfriend, to the hospital. It also caused damage to an abandoned church across the street, reportedly blowing out all its windows.
Prior to setting off that bomb in December of that year, police learned in the course of their investigation that Hannon had previously broken into the home outside of which he set off the bomb and stole several items.
Hannon has been in Schuylkill County Prison since Dec. 21, 2021 on $1 million bail for the bombing incident.
For that incident, he’s facing charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, weapons of mass destruction, arson, causing a catastrophe, and more.
Hannon will also be on trial for the alleged burglary.
