DEBBY LATEST: Less Rain Likely But Flooding Threat Still Exists

2-3 inches of rain possible

The track and timing of Tropical Storm Debby (as it’s currently known) has changed slightly and that has altered the forecast for Schuylkill County in the last 24 hours.

Timing of the storm and how much rain we’ll get has changed. But the threat of flooding here in Schuylkill County still exists.

According to the latest updates from the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service, between 2-3 inches of widespread rain is now forecast for Schuylkill County from Debby, which will be downgraded to a Tropical Rainstorm on Friday.

Localized amounts of rain higher than 3 inches is possible in some areas.

Rain should start either very late Thursday or early Friday. By late Friday night, Debby should be away from Pennsylvania and into New York state.

There is now only a very slim chance of rain forecast for Saturday in Schuylkill County.

The reason for the decrease in the rainfall forecast is due to a slight altering of the path of Debby. Debby is now predicted to track slightly more west of Schuylkill County.

The heaviest rain associated with this tropical system is expected to fall just west of the path of the storm.

As you can see from the 11 a.m. Thursday update from the National Hurricane Center, the cone of Debby has narrowed considerably in the last 24 hours:

Despite these changes in the forecast, Schuylkill County still has a Moderate risk of experiencing flash flooding from Debby on Friday.

As of 1:45 p.m. Thursday, there are no Flood Watch advisories for Schuylkill County posted by National Weather Service.
