A Maryland woman crawled away from a crash scene along Interstate 81 until she was finally noticed by a passing motorist.
According to State Police in Frackville, the crash happened at about 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway in Foster Township Saturday. That’s where police say 35-year-old Candace Sykes, of Baltimore, veered off the road.
When Sykes’ vehicle – a Chevy Suburban – left the road, and struck several trees and rolled over several times before finally coming to a stop.
Police describe the area of the highway as heavily wooded with a down slope.
Sykes was able to free herself from the vehicle and crawled up the embankment along the highway.
Just after 9 a.m., a passing motorist noticed Sykes on the side of the road laying down near a guardrail. That driver called in to State Police and they, along with EMS personnel from Tremont Area Ambulance responded to the scene.
Sykes was taken by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with suspected serious injuries as a result of the crash.
