High winds have knocked out the power to more than 1,300 PPL Electric customers Sunday evening.
According to the utility’s Outage Map, many of the affected homes and businesses are in the Tamaqua and southern Schuylkill areas.
Power may not be restored until early Monday, according to early information provided by PPL.
The likely culprit for the widespread outages are high winds whipping across the area.
The Firewire of Schuylkill County Twitter feed has been active Sunday evening, tracking the damage caused by the winds.
Along Cressona Road, just outside the city limits, a pole was toppled. And a short time later, near Beckville and Game Club roads, a tree was felled by strong winds.
