A New Orleans judge recently denied a motion to reduce the bond for Megan (aka Magen) Hall, the woman accused of killing Pottsville businessman Patrick Murphy back in February 2019.

According to court records, on April 8, attorneys for Hall requested their client’s bond get reduced from $750,000. A week later, Judge Pro Tempore Jay Daniels denied the defense motion for bond reduction.

Bond Reduction for Patrick Murphy’s Accused Killer Denied

Hall has been in an Orleans Parish detention center since turning herself in just hours after she allegedly killed Murphy in a seedy New Orleans hotel on Feb. 28, 2019. She faces the following charges and the possibility of spending the rest of her life in prison if found guilty:

  • Second degree murder
  • Armed robbery
  • Obstruction of justice in a homicide investigation

Hall’s legal team maintains there is more to the story of what happened in that hotel room, at the Empress Hotel in New Orleans’ Treme neighborhood.

The anticipated murder trial has been pushed back numerous times since it was first scheduled for last Fall. The most recent delay was the result of Louisiana courts closing due to the pandemic response.

A court official tells us that even after courts re-open, it could be some time before the Hall trial gets underway. Travel restrictions and the ability to get witnesses to New Orleans could create delays on their own.

And since courts have been closed, the Patrick Murphy murder trial is just one of many cases to get delayed indefinitely.

Hall pleaded not guilty to all the charges she faces. She’s represented by two New Orleans attorneys, John Fuller and Marcus Delarge.

The defense filed an objection to the bond ruling on April 15.
