Four projects in Schuylkill County have been awarded $7.35 million in state grant funds.
Gov. Josh Shapiro’s Office of Budget announced on Thursday the latest recipients of its Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants. The following four projects received RACP grants in this latest round of funding:
Keystone Potato Products, Frailey Township ($3 million): Developing a pad-ready site at the Frailey Township plant. Significant existing conditions challenges, including steep topography and extensive bedrock, will require substantial excavation, grading, and stabilization. Specialized geotechnical assessments and mitigation strategies will be employed to ensure structural integrity and long-term viability. This foundational work is essential to maintaining uninterrupted operations, enabling growth, and positioning the facility for advanced manufacturing.
Kowalonek’s Kielbasy Expansion, Shenandoah ($1.85 million): Renovating the interior of the former Rite Aid store into a new food production location with space to streamline business operations, expand its production capabilities, and add new product lines. It will also create space within the facility for a retail store for the sale of products produced on-site.
Schuylkill County Emergency Operations Facility, West Mahanoy Township ($1.5 million): Constructing and operating a new multi-purpose facility that will house emergency management offices, an operations center, and training facilities for fire companies, emergency services, law enforcement, and local industries. The site will include classrooms, emergency vehicle storage, and space for industrial and community training.
Orwigsburg Fire Dept., Orwigsburg ($1 million): Demolishing the current Orwigsburg Fire Dept. station and the construction of a new station on the same Liberty St. property.
RACP is a reimbursement grant program. Projects that receive awards from the Office of Budget are those “with regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, promoting economic growth, creating jobs, increasing tax revenue, and contributing to vibrant, resilient communities,” according to the Governor’s office.
Nearly $53 million in RACP grants were awarded to 42 projects northeast Pennsylvania in this latest round of funding.
