A Schuylkill County man faces assault and threat charges after police say he threw a piece of lumber at another man and later pointed a handgun at him during an argument this week over missing money.
Dylan Leymeister, 27, of North Manheim Township, is charged with misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and possession of a small amount of marijuana, along with a summary count of harassment.
State Police say they responded to a disturbance call in the 900 block of Garfield Ave. in North Manheim Township at about 8 a.m. on July 12. Upon arrival, Troopers spoke with another man who lives on the property.
The man told police he had walked to the rear door of Leymeister’s home to confront him about missing money. During the ensuing altercation, the other man says Leymeister picked up a 4×4 piece of wood and threw it at him. According to police, the man threw the wood back, breaking a glass window on Leymeister’s rear door, before both men retreated to their respective residences.
About five minutes later, police say the man returned to Leymeister’s home to try and resolve the incident peacefully. Police allege Leymeister exited his residence and approached the man while pulling a black handgun from his front waistband. While arguing, Leymeister allegedly brandished and pointed the gun at the man several times, at one point threatening to shoot him.
Police say Leymeister returned to his home with the firearm and left the property about 10 minutes later in a red Chevrolet pickup truck. Police reviewed surveillance video from the property, which they say captured the entire altercation.
Because the handgun could not be accounted for, police say they obtained a search warrant for Leymeister’s home. Police say the search yielded a small amount of marijuana and two handgun magazines possibly related to the incident. A live .40-caliber round was found outside the home that matched ammunition found in one of the seized magazines, police say.
Leymeister was arraigned Sunday and committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $50,000 bail. Bail was posted the following day. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 4.
