Prepare for a prolonged blast of heat this week, Schuylkill County. National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch.
The Extreme Heat Watch is in effect from noon Wednesday through 8 p.m. Friday.
Temperatures across the coal region are expected to near or top 100 degrees later this week and temps will be above 90 degrees through the upcoming holiday weekend, according to National Weather Service.
The hottest days of the week appear to be Thursday and Friday, with high temps of 99 degrees each day in Pottsville. Bookending those days are a few really hot days as well, including Independence Day. Highs on Wednesday and Friday are expected to hit 96 and 95, respectively.
High humidity is also expected during the week and that will push Heat Index levels up to 110, especially on Thursday and Friday.
Unfortunately, we’ll experience absolutely no relief from the uncomfortable conditions at night either. Overnight lows aren’t likely to get much below 70 degrees for the duration of the heatwave, at least through Sunday
