“Boiling Hot” Soup Thrown on Pregnant Schuylkill County Woman’s Face During Argument Over Shoes on Carpet

Edward facing several charges related to November incident

A Mount Carmel woman faces charges after police say she threatened to kill a pregnant Schuylkill County woman and threw boiling soup on her during an argument over wearing shoes on a carpet in Shenandoah.

Rosa Edward, 46, is charged with misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats and simple assault, along with a summary count of harassment.

The alleged incident occurred shortly after noon on Nov. 1, at a residence on N. Union St., State Police say. Troopers say they arrived at the home to find the victim already receiving treatment from emergency medical personnel.

The victim told police that Edward, identified as her husband’s aunt, knocked on the locked front door, police say. The victim’s husband awoke and let Edward inside, at which point an argument began over Edward wearing shoes on a carpet the victim had put down, police say.

During the dispute, Edward allegedly stated, “Bitch, I don’t f***ing care. You’re f***ing pregnant. I’m going to kill you,” police say.

The victim told her husband to remove Edward from the house and told Edward to leave, police say. Edward then picked up a Styrofoam cup from the floor and threw what the victim described as “boiling hot” soup into the victim’s face, police say.

Edward pushed the victim to the ground, threw the remaining soup from the cup onto her, and fled the scene in a silver Nissan SUV, police say.

The victim, who reported being nine weeks pregnant, did not have visible injuries at the scene but was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville for evaluation, police say.

The victim later contacted police to report she was diagnosed with burns at the hospital and later provided medical records indicating she suffered a neck and head sprain from the incident, police say. The victim also told police she was concerned the incident may have long-term effects on her vision.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 25 before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker in Shenandoah.
