A Schuylkill County man was recently jailed following an alleged domestic incident during which police say he held a woman against the wall of a bathroom because he wanted some money.
According to court documents, police in Shenandoah were called to a home on W. New York St. shortly before 10 p.m. on June 22 for a reported domestic disturbance.
When police arrived and went inside the residence, they say they could hear a woman yelling to get off her and let her out of the bathroom.
Police say as they approached the bathroom door, it was pushed shut and they were blocked from the inside from opening it. After forcing their way inside, police say they saw a man – later identified as 45-year-old Gregory Paschall, of Shenandoah – holding a woman against the wall and refusing to let her get out.
Force was used to separate Paschall from the woman and when they were able to do that, the woman ran out of the bathroom. Paschall was taken into custody.
Later, the victim of this alleged incident was interviewed by police. She reportedly said that Paschall had asked for her wallet because he wanted money.
After she accused Paschall of not caring for or about her while she had been sick, she said Paschall “snapped” and shoved her to the ground in an upstairs hallway. To get away, she told police that she ran into the bathroom and locked the door.
However, Paschall forced his way into the bathroom by breaking its door and allegedly pinned the victim against the wall by placing his hand around her neck and choking her. The victim reportedly told police that at some point, she could not breathe due to Paschall’s grip around her neck.
Redness and bruising were noted by police around the victim’s neck. The victim also told police shew as suffering some pain on the side of her body from when Paschall had shoved her to the ground during this incident.
Paschall was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina and charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor offenses of unlawful restraint, simple assault and reckless endangerment as well as a summary offense for harassment.
Serina set bail at $25,000 cash and Paschall was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison, where he remains. A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for July 3.
