A Schuylkill County man is facing charges after police say they found him passed out behind the wheel of his running vehicle in a convenience store parking lot with a glass pipe in his hand.
According to court documents, State Police say they were called to the New Ringgold Market parking lot at about 3:30 a.m. on May 22 to perform a welfare check on a person slumped over in their vehicle.
Police say as they approached the vehicle, the found a man – identified as Jerry Moyer, 39, of Cressona – passed out inside with engine running. Moyer, they say, had a glass smoking device that was wrapped with black electrical tape in his right hand.
Multiple attempts were made to try and awaken Moyer but were unsuccessful, initially. Eventually, Moyer did wake up. Police say they asked him what was in the glass device and Moyer reportedly said, “It’s basically empty.”
Moyer allegedly told police that he uses the device to smoke meth. Police say they also saw a capped syringe in plain view in the center console of Moyer’s vehicle. Two other syringes were seen inside the vehicle.
When asked if he had anything on his person, Moyer reportedly showed police that he had a bag of meth in the pocket of his jeans, plus a Ziploc bag that contained two white pills marked I8, and two small baggies that each contained an unknown white powder.
Earlier this week, police filed misdemeanor charges of DUI, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia along with summary offenses for driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina on July 29.
