Schuylkill County Teen Bloodied, Jailed After Vehicle Owner Fights Back

A teen from Schuylkill County is facing charges after a man in Shenandoah Heights allegedly caught him rummaging through his vehicle and then chased him down and bloodied his face.

According to court documents, the incident happened along Ohio Ave. in West Mahanoy Township shortly after midnight on June 21. Police say they were dispatched to an area in the 300 block of Ohio Ave. for a reported theft from a motor vehicle in progress.

On their way to the scene, police say they learned that the man who reported theives breaking into his vehicle had gotten involved in a physical altercation with one of the two suspects and that the other suspect had fired six rounds from a gun.

Police met up with the victim of this incident who said the people whom he’d caught stealing from his vehicle had run into a wooded area near Pennsylvania Ave. in the Heights. That area was checked but was negative for anyone.

Back on Ohio Ave., police continued to speak with the victim of this incident. He said that he recently had two pistols stolen from his vehicle so he installed a motion detector in his driveway. That motion detector went off on Saturday and when he looked outside, he saw a person dressed in black with a black hood going through his vehicle.

The victim said he confronted the person he’d seen, armed with a non-lethal pistol that fired rubber projectiles, and told the person to freeze. That did not elicit the response he’d hoped so he fired from that pistol toward the person going through his vehicle. The suspect ran away, falling on a grassy area in front of a home on Ohio Ave.

The victim told police he gave chase in an attempt to detain the suspect, which he temporarily did, pulling off his mask. The suspect got his mask back and continued running on Ohio Ave. The victim again caught up to him and the two got into a fight, saying he was able to register several hits to the suspects face, causing him to bleed profusely from it. The suspect also reportedly dropped his phone.

While this fight was unfolding, the victim told police that another male standing near a wooded area on Ohio Ave. fired a small pistol into the air in an attempt to scare him away. The victim told police that when he heard the gunshots, he stopped trying to detain the suspect he’d tackled and hit and let him run into the woods.

At the scene of the fight, police say they saw a large puddle of blood along with a strawberry-banana vape pen. The victim also handed police the suspect’s phone, which he had picked up during the fight.

On Monday morning, police in West Mahanoy Township say they received a phone call from a Luzerne County Juvenile Probation officer regarding a 16-year-old under his supervision that lived on Indiana Ave. in Shenandoah Heights.

The probation officer told police he was headed to the Heights to pick up this juvenile for violating the terms of his house arrest. Police in West Mahanoy also learned that this juvenile was on house arrest for stealing from a vehicle and carrying a gun without a license.

At that home on Indiana Ave., the juvenile was taken into custody and during a search of the home, the suspect in the incident from Saturday was also located, identified as Jeremy Concepcion, 18, of McAdoo. Concepcion was reportedly hiding behind a large mirror in the corner of a bedroom, police say. He had injuries to his face that were consistent with what was alleged to have happened during that fight reported over the weekend.

While in custody, Concepcion eventually decided to speak with police regarding that incident. He reportedly said, “The neighbor shot a gun in the air; it wasn’t me.” Concepcion also reportedly admitted to entering the victim’s vehicle and being confronted by him and having rubber projectiles fired at him. He said he wasn’t hit, police report.

Police have filed charges of attempted theft from a motor vehicle and loitering/prowling at night against Concepcion. He was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge Anthony Kilker on Monday afternoon. Kilker set bail at $25,000 cash and remanded Concepcion to Schuylkill County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for July 3.
