Minersville General Store Robber Now Accused of Stealing US Mail Jeep, Joyriding to New York

Adan Twigg serving 4-10 on Minersville General Store robbery

One of the men who has already pleaded guilty to his part in holding up the Minersville General Store back in 2024 is now facing new charges that he stole a US Mail Jeep and took it for a joyride to New York.

According to court documents filed earlier this week by police in Schuylkill Haven, on the morning of June 20, an officer was called to a home on Hillcroft Ave. in the borough for a reported vehicle theft. The vehicle’s owner said sometime overnight, someone stole her Jeep.

The victim said her Jeep was very distinct in that it was clearly marked in several locations: US Mail Postal Carrier. It also had the driver’s seat on the right side of the vehicle. The Jeep also had headlight issues in that one didn’t work at all and other was very dim and would sometimes go out. Police say the vehicle’s owner did state she left the keys inside the vehicle and didn’t lock it.

Following an on-scene investigation that came up empty, police in Schuylkill Haven received a call later that day from State Police in Ulster County, New York. A rollover crash had just happened that involved the reportedly stolen mail Jeep. The Jeep had four people inside, including 20-year-old Adan Twigg (he was 19 at the time) and three juveniles.

Twigg was one of the four charged by police in Minersville for the armed robbery of the Minersville General Store in August of 2024. Earlier this year, he entered a guilty plea on some of the charges he was facing – while some were dropped – and was sentenced to 4-10 years in state prison.

In March 2025, Ulster County (NY) District Attorney Daniel Risk contacted his counterpart in Schuylkill County, Mike O’Pake, regarding the case of the crashed and stolen mail Jeep, police say. The vehicle theft case, it was decided, would be tried in Schuylkill County.

Police say on April 3, they interviewed Twigg about the reported stolen mail Jeep at State Correctional Institute – Huntingdon, where he’s currently being held. Twigg reportedly told police details about the vehicle theft, including the location and details about the Jeep, including the fact that it had just one seat inside.

Twigg said he and two other co-conspirators drove to Pottsville once they fled Schuylkill Haven with the vehicle and picked up a fourth person.

One of those people was another person implicated in the Minersville General Store robbery, Edward Martinez, whose case on that incident is still pending in Schuylkill County Court. No new charges are currently filed against Martinez in the case of the stolen mail Jeep.

Twigg also reportedly said they then drove to Allentown, but he wasn’t sure of that exactly, and then just drove in no particular direction until they crashed in New York.

Twigg said he only remembered being taken away from the crash scene by helicopter but was released from the hospital the same day. Police also spoke with two other people who Twigg had picked up or were with him in the stolen Jeep.

Police have filed felony theft and receiving stolen property charges against Twigg related to this incident. A preliminary hearing before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina is pending, according to court documents.
