Senior students at Schuylkill Technology Center participated in SkillsUSA Signing Day Thursday morning.
On Signing Day, students at the North and South campuses of STC sign a Letter of Intent to either join a company with a job after graduation, go off to college, or join one of the armed services.
About 70 seniors participated in the 2025 National Signing Day ceremony, held at STC-North in Frackville.

Local officials including Schuylkill County Commissioners, State Reps. Joanne Stehr and Tim Twardzik, and business leaders like Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Bob Carl, and NEPA Manufacturers and Employers Council President Darlene Robbins all addressed students, stressing the importance of working in trades, enlisting in the military, and going to college.
No matter the choices students who signed a Letter of Intent today make, they were all encouraged to either stay or come back to Schuylkill County, to work a career or start a business of their own.

Thursday’s ceremony also featured speeches from Mahdy Farhat, SkillsUSA South Student Body President, and Jorel Powell, SkillsUSA, North Campus Body President.
“I’ve learned many important lessons through Skills, such as how to work as a team, how to be a successful leader, and how to communicate effectively with my classmates,” Farhat said. “I’m so thankful that I had the opportunity to join Skills and attend STC so I can learn and practice these skills prior to graduation.
Farhat signed a Letter of Intent on Thursday to attend Joseph McCloskey School of Nursing.
Powell signed a Letter of Intent to enlist in the U.S. Navy after graduation.
“Being at STC, it’s taught me a lot. It’s taught me that there can be a lot of friends in places that you’d never think,” Powell told fellow students. “The teachers have shown us that we matter a lot into the future. It doesn’t matter what career we choose. It doesn’t matter if you’re an electrician, you’re a doctor … it doesn’t matter. You are absolutely important in this community.”
