A Schuylkill Haven man with a mohawk is facing several charges following an early-morning incident involving a gun in Cressona last month.
According to an affidavit filed by State Police-Schuylkill Haven, the incident happened on Marsha Dr. in Cressona a little before 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 23. There, a woman told police that a man with a mohawk and a gun tried entering her home in the middle of the night.
State Police were joined by Schuylkill Haven Police at the scene and they made contact with the suspect in this incident, identified as 22-year-old Nicholas Johnson. Johnson, they say, was in his vehicle. Also inside the vehicle, in plain view on the passenger seat, was a tan Glock 19x 9mm handgun. Police say it had no round in the chamber but did have a loaded magazine.
At that time, police took Johnson into custody. While in custody, Johnson reportedly told police that he was dropping off a friend at his home. He then said he was trying to get into his friend’s home, or what he thought was his friend’s home. However, that wasn’t his friend’s home.
The person whose home Johnson allegedly tried to enter told police that she saw an unknown man with a mohawk trying to get into her residence. Johnson reportedly tried to use a key, the victim said. He also turned the door handle and push against the door to force his way inside and when that didn’t work, he came back to the door with a gun.
Police say they witnessed surveillance video which purportedly showed Johnson pointing that gun toward the front door of the victim’s residence and then pointing it at himself while appearing to rack the slide.
The video also reportedly shows the victim trying to contact Johnson via the doorbell camera. In response to that, Johnson allegedly flips the middle finger at the doorbell camera.
During his police interview, Johnson reportedly admitted to drinking prior to this incident. Following a sobriety test, police added a DUI charge on top of the misdemeanor reckless endangerment and criminal trespass charges.
A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for April 8 before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina.
