A Shenandoah man is accused of stealing a Ring doorbell camera that apparently captured him in the act of stealing it.
Police in the borough say they got a call at about 11 a.m. on Feb. 1 for a report of a theft. The victim in this case told police that at about 8:45 a.m., a man came to his front porch and grabbed his Ring doorbell video camera.
The owner of the Ring device said the device captured the item being stolen and the video was stored digitally. Police say the footage clearly showed the man’s face who allegedly stole the camera. He later saw the same man – identified as Robert Seigel, 60 – in his neighborhood. Police say when they saw the video footage of the device being stolen, they were able to identify Seigel.
At this point, the Ring device’s owner decided to confront Seigel about him taking the camera. Seigel reportedly asked that the victim not call the police. He then grabbed the Ring device from his pocket and returned it to the owner. The victim obviously called police despite the request to not do so.
Seigel has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property, both second-degree misdemeanors. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled before District Magistrate Judge Anthony Kilker on March 6.
