Week 5 NFL DFS Review – Who Helped Us and Who Hurt Us (and why)

daily fantasy football strategies

Every week I’m going to go through and look at my player picks for my Week 5 NFL DFS Review –  Who Helped Us and Who Hurt Us (and why).

It was a CRAZY high scoring week as many of the very popular plays paid off and there were a TON of yards and touchdowns.

We hit the money over on FanDuel this week with a total of 177.64 points.  As I’ve said before, the large majority of my play is on FanDuel, so it was another good week, we cashed in 100% of contests!  Our DraftKings lineup came up short of the cash game pay lines with 176.02 points but still managed to cash in 25% of contests.  For reference, on normal weeks 176.02 makes money in both cash and GPP contests on both sites.

Don’t forget to give me a follow on Twitter @FlashlightDFS I’m happy to answer your DFS or seasonal fantasy football questions.

FANDUEL

Average cash game pay line was a whopping 153.73 points, we scored 177.64 and cashed in 100% of contests.

DRAFTKINGS

Average cash game pay line for DK was an insane 187.95 points, we scored 176.02 and cashed in 25% of contests.

WHO HELPED US

These are the guys I wrote up in my weekly article Week 5 NFL DFS Breakdown for FanDuel and DraftKings that helped us get above the pay lines this week.

QB – Watson & Brady were my top two and both were stellar.  Winston, Bridgewater and Dalton had nice days too.  Wentz didn’t kill you if you played him.

RB – Fournette, Cook, DJ all had nice outings. Zeke was OK but at the price we paid we’re expecting more.  Ingram & Connor were unspectacular but fine.

WR – Modestly speaking I kicked ass on WR this week.  Michael Thomas is my call of the week.  I was all over him this week on FD and to get him at at between 2-9% ownership meant we went flying past the competition.  More popular plays of Godwin, Thielen, A Rob, Boyd, Fuller all smashed too.  Marquise Brown and Auden Tate were fine for their prices.

TE – Ertz paid off on a very down week for TE overall.

DEF – EAGLES, Pats and Steelers all paid off.  Titans were unspectacular but didn’t destroy you.

WHO HURT US (AND WHY)

These guys didn’t perform up to our expectations.

QB – Wentz was a let down. The offense sputtered in a non-inspired game where the Eagles defense stifled the Jets.

RB – I’ll raise my hand that CMC was not in my write up. I really felt Zeke would dominate the Packers but game flow went against us.  CMC is ALWAYS in play but I’d be lying if I didn’t count this as a miss.  Melvin Gordon also was a let down but I stayed away from the Chargers RB situation.

WR – DeAndre Hopkins was double covered all day long and still managed 7/88.  Compared to Fuller and his price it’s a big let down.  Alshon Jeffery sunk with Carson Wentz. Diggs and Dionte Johnson were underwhelming as well.

TE – It was a very down week for TE so nobody killed us but Eifert, Waller and Graham all failed to meet expectations.

DEF – The Bears, shockingly, were shellacked by the Raiders.

All in all this was a very successful week.  Our core plays of Zeke, Godwin, Golden Tate and the Steelers D allowed us to roster the guys like Watson, Brady, Cook, Thielen, DJ and Fournette who got us over the pay lines.

I’m working on Week 6 and should have my breakdown up and ready in time for Thursday Night Football.
