Minersville Clinches Division II with Comeback Win

First team to punch their ticket to the Schuylkill League playoffs

Jordan Bowers’ brace led Minersville Area to a 4-2 victory over Shenandoah Valley Monday night and the Battlin’ Miners clinched the Division II title.

Bowers tied the game with a goal in the first half and added another to give his team the lead in the second half in the win over the Blue Devils.

Chase Zimerofsky brought the Miners level after Angel Flores gave Shenandoah Valley a 2-1 lead in the second half. But Minersville (8-0) scored three unanswered, with a Cam Rogers goal adding some insurance.

Peter Flores also scored for the Devils.

Robert McGrath (Minersville) and Dariel Feliciano (SV) each had 3 saves in net on Monday.

The loss cost Shenandoah Valley (4-4) a chance to draw even with Schuylkill Haven Area and Tri-Valley in the Division II standings and a spot in the Schuylkill League playoffs later this month. The top three seeds in each division qualify for the league postseason. There are two league matchdays left to play.

In Division I play on Monday, Pine Grove Area blanked Tamaqua Area, 2-0, to maintain its grip on the second seed in Division I. Blue Mountain inched closer to the Division I crown with a 6-0 shutout victory over Lourdes Regional.

In non-league action Monday, Northumberland Christian topped Schuylkill Haven Area, 3-2, and New Convenant Christian School defeated Tri-Valley, 2-0.
