Schuylkill County Man Steals Truck, Rams Business With It, Police Say

Tried kicking into home but was scared off by shotgun pointed at him

A Schuylkill County man is accused of stealing a utility truck and then using it to ram a business.

According to an affidavit filed by State Police–Schuylkill Haven, Daniel Bashore, 42, of Schuylkill Haven, stole a 2005 Freightliner utility truck from E. Main St. in North Manheim Township and drove it to a home along Long Run Rd. (Route 443) in Wayne Township.

Police say Bashore parked the stolen truck on the front lawn of the residence and then went to the front door and tried to kick it open. Bashore then began looking around for another way into the home but couldn’t find one. He left when he was confronted by the resident pointing a shotgun at him.

Bashore got back into the stolen truck, police say, and then drove to a business a short distance away on Long Run Rd. There, Bashore began to ram the truck into a bay door of the establishment but was unable to get inside.

Police say he left that business after his unsuccessful attempt at ramming his way into it. Bashore reportedly caused about $7,000 in property damage during this rampage.

Four State Troopers searched the area looking for Bashore and learned that he may be in the Landingville area.

The stolen vehicle was eventually found on Green Tree Dr. in West Brunswick Township. Police say the vehicle was in the eastbound lane facing in the wrong direction with Bashore in the driver’s seat.

Bashore was ordered numerous times to get out of the vehicle. He was also told to put his hands behind his back but ignored that order too, police say.

One Trooper grabbed Bashore and placed him on the ground, but the suspect continued resisting arrest.

With all four Troopers now on the scene, they attempted to get Bashore into custody. A Taser was deployed “multiple times,” but Bashore continued to resist, police say. Eventually, they were able to get Bashore in cuffs.

One Trooper suffered a right knee injury, and another injured both of his hands. They believe Bashore was under the influence of a controlled substance throughout the incident.

Bashore is facing a raft of charges following this incident. They include two felony counts of aggravated assault, two counts of felony attempted burglary, a count of felony criminal trespass, and felony charges of theft, receiving stolen property, and criminal mischief.

He’s also been charged with misdemeanors for simple assault, resisting arrest, and DUI. Numerous summary charges have been filed against Bashore too.

Bashore was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge David Plachko on April 13. Plachko set bail at $75,000 cash, which hasn’t been posted, and Bashore remains locked up in Schuylkill County Prison.
