Let Schuylkill County Commissioners Know How You Feel About New Public Participation Rule

This morning’s meeting of Schuylkill County Commissioners may be the last time you can actively and freely participate in one for a while.

Commissioners are set to vote on a new rule that greatly affects how the public can voice their opinion on county government. (SEE: Schuylkill County Commissioners Attempting to Muzzle the Public with New Comment Rules)

The Commissioners will once again host the meeting on Oct. 14 on the Zoom app. And to listen in or voice your opinion during Public Comment sessions, you’ll need this call-in information:

  • Dial 1-301-715-8592
  • Then enter this Meeting ID#: 942 6387 7707
  • And finally, hit the # key to enter the meeting.

In addition to the new rule on public comment sessions during these meetings going forward, here is the Agenda for today’s meeting.

You’ll notice that what’s not on this week’s Agenda is any spending on the County 9-1-1 upgrades project.

However, there is one item of interest …

It appears the County Commissioners will vote on increasing a contract for Susquehanna Accounting & Consulting Solutions Inc. by $65,000. This company is apparently helping Schuylkill County with “technical assistance and advice” on how to spend and manage the money it received from the federal CARES Act earlier this year.

Based on our searches of public records posted “on the County’s internet” we didn’t find any reference to this company in the past so we’re unclear on the initial terms of the contract with Susquehanna Accounting & Consulting. Could be just an oversight on our part …

The County does have a contract with a company called Zelenkofske Axelrod LLC for a similar purpose. Schuylkill Commissioners originally approved a $90,000 contract with them but it was scaled back to $45,000. 10-14-20 Commissioners’ Board Mtg Agenda

I believe corruption in county gov. is obvious. I do believe comm. Halcovage is the leading actor, the man is a arrogant egotistical individual along with being a serial offender of women. #1 where is the 12 million dollars in covid assistance money, how is it being distributed. every penny should be accounted for. #2 spending a 1/2 million on comm ctr out of covid money is not right. #3 Why in God’s name would you contract with 2 acct. firms. I think maybe it is time to seriously think of home rule for our county. #4 hopefullky when the state atty gen complete’s his investigation they will find something criminal against Mr. Halcovage and we can get rid of him.
