On Thursday, parents of students at Schuylkill County public schools received a letter from Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency and all superintendents informing them they’re monitoring the latest COVID-19 coronavirus developments.
The letter makes no mention of any school closings.
“The Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency in consultation with the Pennsylvania Dept. of Health is actively working to plan and respond to the potential impact of coronavirus COVID-19 with all County School Districts,” the letter reads. “Superintendents continue to meet regularly to share information regarding these potential impacts.”
Again, no mention of a school closure is listed in this letter which is signed by all the public schools’ superintendents.
Schuylkill County Public Schools Do Not Plan to Close
“Much remains unknown about COVID-19, including fatality rates. Early indications are that children are at a much lower risk of severe illness. The County and all School Districts will continue to work collaboratively, proceeding with an abundance of caution, guided by the most current accurate information. We want people in Schuylkill County to be aware of the situation but not panic,” the letter also reads.
There are plenty of rumors online about school closings right now but you should definitely ignore them. Local agencies and schools are using official social media channels and their respective school websites to keep the public informed of any schedule changes due to the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus.
Earlier this week, officials at Mahanoy Area School District released a statement warning against the spread of #FakeNews regarding coronavirus.
As of writing this article, there are 0 presumed positive or confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 coronavirus in Schuylkill County.
