Commissioners Honor Schuylkill County 9-1-1 Dispatchers During National Telecommunicators Week

“”In an emergency, you’re the first calming voice people hear.”

Schuylkill County Commissioners took a few moment on Wednesday to honor National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week by issuing a proclamation and heaping praise on local emergency dispatchers.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is celebrated from April 12-18 this year.

Schuylkill County 9-1-1 dispatchers Mark Cuttic and Easton Quinter were on hand at Wednesday’s Commissioners Work Session meeting to accept a formal proclamation.

During the brief ceremony, the Commissioners told dispatchers who appreciated they are within the community and thanked them for the work they do daily.

“In an emergency, you’re the first calming voice people hear,” Chairman Larry Padora said.

Commissioner Boots Hetherington recalled a recent staffing shortage at Schuylkill County 9-1-1 and noted that dispatchers worked double shifts and up to 30 extra hours a week .

“At no time was a call ever not taken,” Hetherington said. “We appreciate all that you guys have done.”

Commissioner Gary Hess said that dispatching emergency response is just one part of their job and sometimes they’re being asked to help save a life over the phone.

“We have the most professional and active telecommunicators that I know,” Hess said. “Thank you for what you do, day in and day out, 24-7.”
