One State Trooper is in critical condition and another is listed as in serious condition after they were shot by a retail theft suspect on Wednesday in Franklin County.
That retail theft suspect was shot dead by Troopers. Two others were arrested.
Shortly after 6 p.m., police responded to a reported retail theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods in East Guilford Township, Franklin County.
The suspects fled toward Interstate 81. Troopers quickly spotted the getaway vehicle and a pursuit ensued, police say. Spike strips were deployed and stopped the vehicle on I-81 South at Exit 3.
Two female suspects inside the vehicle surrendered and were taken into custody. The male suspect, however, began shooting at Troopers, hitting two of them. Troopers returned fire and fatally wounded the male suspect.
The two Troopers were airlifted to Wellspan York Hospital.
The Troop H Major Case Team and Franklin County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
Names of the Troopers and the suspects have not yet been released.
