Police in Mahanoy Township announced late Thursday they made two additional immigration arrests during a safety checkpoint on Morea Road.
The operation, which was assisted by Ryan Township and Mahanoy City police, also resulted in one DUI arrest and several traffic violations, police say.
Thursday’s arrests bring the department’s total to six immigration-related arrests over a nine-day stretch.
The recent arrests follow two separate responses from earlier this month. On April 11, police say an officer tracked the sound of rapid gunfire to a large gathering at the Route 339 wind farm. Officers detained eight people, seized a firearm, and, after contacting federal authorities, identified two individuals who were in the country illegally.
Days earlier, on April 8, police say they identified two other individuals in the country illegally during a commercial vehicle safety check along Burma Road.
