Nabholz Promoted to High-A Eugene Emeralds

Blue Mountain grad spends about a month with San Jose before call-up

Another Schuylkill County native also recently got promoted within his MLB organization.

The San Francisco Giants moved Nate Nabholz – a 2019 Blue Mountain High School grad – to its High-A affiliate Eugene Emeralds on July 24. His contract was selected by the Giants back on June 18 from the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Frontier League and was immediately assigned to Single-A San Jose Giants, where he quickly flourished for about a month.

His last outing for San Jose, a start against the Ontario Tower Buzzers (Dodgers), certainly didn’t go as well as he would have liked (3.2 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 K, 2 BB) but that didn’t prevent San Francisco from seeing what the 6-4 righty had displayed since joining the team.

And in his first appearance for Eugene on Friday against the Tri-City Dust Devils (Angels), he didn’t disappoint. Nabholz worked 2.2 hitless innings, striking out 3 and walking just 1 batter. Twenty-three of his 36 pitches found the strike zone.

Since getting picked up by the Giants organization, Nabholz has appeared in 9 games, has a 1-0 record with a 3.05 ERA in 20.2 innings of work. He’s recorded 15 strikeouts against 8 walks and batters are hitting .225 against him.
