Following his lights-out performance a little more than a week ago at Binghamton, Pottsville Area alum John Holobetz earned a promotion to the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox of the International League on Thursday.
And in his first start for the Woo Sox, Holobetz did not disappoint, going 5.2 innings, only allowing one run, and picking up the win in his Triple-A debut.
Holobetz scattered 4 hits – including a solo home run in the 5th inning – while striking out 6 Norfolk Tides (Orioles) batters. He landed 55 of his 71 pitches in the strike zone in his first start for Worcester.
Across Double- and Triple-A, Holobetz is now 6-3 on the 2026 season with a 4.15 ERA over 16 starts. He’s up to 99 strikeouts this year.
Assuming Holobetz remains with Worcester through the end of the season, local fans will have a chance to see him when the Woo Sox visit the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (Phillies) in a six-game series from Sept. 8-13. The Red Sox will not visit Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Yankees) any more this season.
