Flood Watch Issued for Schuylkill County on Tuesday

Rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour possible

Active Weather Alerts

National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Schuylkill County through 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Heavy rain – between 1-2 inches – is expected to fall on much of the area today. Forecasters say multiple rounds of slow-moving rain shows and thunderstorms could lead to rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour at times.

The Flood Watch is also in effect for Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York counties in central Pennsylvania and all of eastern Pennsylvania.

This heavy, excessive rainfall could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas around Schuylkill County. Rivers, creeks, and streams may also flood, NWS says.

The heaviest of rain is likely to fall during the afternoon and evening hours, Dave Martin, a forecaster with National Weather Service, tells Coal Region Canary.

Today’s high temperatures across Schuylkill County are expected to be in the upper 70s, with lows tonight in the lower 60s. Winds could gust up to 20 mph at times on Tuesday.

While some clearing is expected overnight, a chance of rain and storms exists during the day on Wednesday, though not as heavy as expected today.
