Several important deadlines are nearing for Schuylkill County property owners in relation to the ongoing property tax reassessment.
Property owners who wish to have an informal review of the data collected by Vision Government Solutions must now schedule one online. And they only have until 9 p.m. Sunday, June 1, to do it.
The phone center to schedule these informal reviews closed on Friday.
Residential informal reviews are expected to wrap up this week.
The deadline for commercial property owners to schedule an informal review of the collected data is now 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 9. Commercial property owners must call to schedule an informal review of the data collected.
According to Tim Barr, of Vision Government Solutions, the company conducting the reassessment for Schuylkill County, there have been far less informal reviews requested by residential property owners.
Barr said that is likely a result of property owners getting a tax impact estimate on their Preliminary Value Notification mailer. That mailer showed property owners an estimate of the new property tax they must pay versus what they have been paying since the 1996 reassessment.
He also said it’s possible that property owners are waiting until the formal appeals process opens after July 1.
As he has stated in the past, informal reviews are not meant to be a forum to debate the assessed value of a property. Rather, they’re meant for reviewing and potentially changing the data that was collected on a property earlier in the reassessment process.
Official reassessment values are expected to hit the mail for property owners in Schuylkill County on or before July 1. Those mailers should include a County tax impact, as was included in the Preliminary Value Notification mailer, as well as a composite tax impact that includes estimates on municipal and school taxes after the reassessment.
Barr said the estimated school tax impact will be based on 2024-25 tax rates because some budgets have not yet been finalized for the 2025-26 school term.
Appeals of those final assessments will begin shortly after that and will be conducted in front of a three-person board.
