Two Reported Overdoses Prompted Temporary Closure of Sheetz in Pottsville

Store was temporarily closed for “deep cleaning”

The Sheetz store in Pottsville was temporarily closed Saturday following a pair of reported overdoses on Saturday.

Pottsville Police confirmed today that city officers responded to the Sheetz store on Gordon Nagle Rd. on Saturday. One person was found to believed to be overdosed inside the store and another was in a vehicle.

Both apparent victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, police say.

This prompted a sudden but temporary closure of the store. It opened later in the afternoon on Saturday.

Initially, a spokesperson from Sheetz customer service described what happened as an “incident” that “required a deep cleaning” of the store.

Signs taped to the doors and drive-thru of the store read: “Attention Sheetz guests: Our store is currently closed due to health privacy. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

Several ServPro crews were on site and cleaning the store.
