Pottsville Area Accepts Resignation of Head Basketball Coach, Hires Replacement

Pottsville Area School District accepted the resignation of its head basketball coach Wednesday night. And it also hired his replacement.

At Wednesday’s meeting of the Pottsville Area school board, the resignation of Jake Wartella was accepted unanimously. Tyler Heffner was hired as the next head basketball coach.

According to a T102SportsNow.com report, Wartella has been the head coach for the past five seasons and chose to step down primarily due to family commitments.

In other personnel moves, school board members unanimously accepted resignations from:

  • Aprile Goehring, special education teacher, effective March 11
  • Leeana Gretsky, third grade teacher, effective at the end of the 2024-25 school term
  • Jeremiah Lynn, high school German teacher, effective April 17

The board also approved the following teacher hires at the listed salaries:

  • Morgan Althouse, middle school art teacher ($45,000), effective March 24
  • Chloe Dronick, elementary special education teacher ($45,000), effective April 17

These teacher hires are effective at the beginning of the 2025-26 school term:

  • Shea Hossler, kindergarten teacher ($46,000)
  • Lori Yost, first grade teacher ($46,000)
  • Emily Cooper, elementary special education teacher ($46,000)
  • Brooke Wargo, third grade teacher ($52,600)
  • Taylor Sbors, elementary special education teacher ($47,000)
  • Dennis Buchman, sixth grade science teacher ($60,490)
  • Cody Blankenhorn, middle school social studies teacher ($59,200)
