Minersville Borough Council members played a little game of Musical Chairs Tuesday night.
Following the resignation of former Council President Ian Mahal, there was an absence on the Board. That was filled Tuesday when Joseph Slovick was nominated and unanimously approved as the next Council President.
Justin Frantz was nominated and unanimously approved to be the new Vice President.
In comments on Tuesday, Slovick highlighted some things he wanted to see done in his time as Council President. Slovick said he wanted to establish a YouTube channel for the Borough, namely in the interest of transparency in government. He hopes to work with Minersville Area High School students to accomplish this.
Slovick also said he is in favor of renewing the Junior Councilperson, a student who sits with Borough Council for meetings but does not have a vote.

Mahal’s exit and the board reorganization still left an absence on Borough Council. That was filled by the appointment of Amelia Hopkins.
Hopkins told The Canary she had some encouragement to express interest in joining Borough Council from current board members.
A lifelong Minersville resident, Hopkins said she has three young children and plans on sticking around for a while and “hopes to make a difference” in her time in office.
