National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Schuylkill County and all of eastern Pennsylvania from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening.
Up to 3 inches of rain is possible in that time, with the heaviest rain falling during the overnight hours of Sunday into Monday.
Rain is expected to begin on Sunday, first as drizzle in the morning hours and then a steadier rain in the afternoon. The rain is expected to intensify as we get closer to midnight.
There’s a chance of a thunderstorm accompanying the heavy rain during the early morning hours of Monday. Storms could produce some very heavy rainfall.
Rain will continue through Monday. There’s a chance of rain and snow after 10 p.m. Monday and a chance of snow after 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Less than a half-inch of snow is expected.
NWS says excessive runoff may result in river, creek, and stream flooding. Low-lying areas and areas prone to flooding, like those with poor drainage, are also places of concern during this rainstorm.
This will be one of those rainstorms where you’re likely to hear someone say “Could you imagine if this were snow?” But it won’t even come close to feeling like snow weather until late Monday.
A high temperature of 53 is expected on Sunday with a low of a very mild 46. The high on Monday will be 54 before dropping on Monday night to a low of 29.
While it’ll be rather mild on Sunday and Monday during the day, it’ll be very windy, according to the latest forecast. Wind will intensify through the day on Sunda with peak gusts as high as 43 mph on Sunday night. A sustained wind of 16-21 mph is expected on Sunday night.
That strong wind will persist into Monday with a steady wind of 18-25 mph, gusting to 38 mph.
After this storm passes, it’ll start to feel like winter, which begins later in the week.
