More than 2 inches of rain is expected on Sunday here in Schuylkill County. That’s why National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch to go in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon.
The risk of flash flooding from this major rain event is low, however. Rainfall rates aren’t likely to exceed more than an inch per hour. But excessive rain could cause runoff issues.
Areas of poor drainage could experience flooding, forecasters say.
The high temperature on Sunday is expected to come close to 60 degrees. Sunday should be a windy day, too. Sustained winds will range from 8-18 mph throughout the day. Gusts could top 30 mph, especially on Sunday night.
Now, while we’re talking about a high temperature near 60 on Sunday during the day, the front that’s bringing this heavy rain has a back half that will make it feel much more like December on Sunday night and into next week.
In fact, on Sunday night, this storm is likely to end with a mix of rain and snow early Monday morning up until about noon. Less than a half inch of snow is expected.
The high temperature on Monday is forecast at just 39 adn teh rest of the week won’t get much warmer.
