A 5-year-old Schuylkill County boy died Wednesday night after rescuers pulled him from a frozen pond a few hours earlier.

The boy’s brother survived after his mother pulled him from the pond in Molino, West Brunswick Township.

According to information released Thursday from State Police in Schuylkill Haven, this tragic incident happened at about 5:30 along Molino Rd. in West Brunswick Twp.

Emergency dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call about 2 boys who’d fallen into an icy pond.

The mother of the two boys, aged 4 and 5, went into the pond and was able to rescue the 4-year-old. But the older boy was not seen on the pond at that time.

A dive team from Schuylkill Haven Fire Dept. arrived at the scene and was able to locate the 5-year-old underwater. Rescuers performed life-saving procedures on that child and he was taken by ambulance to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital near Orwigsburg.

The boy was taken by medical helicopter to Geisinger Hospital in Danville for further treatment but was pronounced dead at 9:12 p.m.

The 4-year-old who was rescued by his mother was initially taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and then by medical helicopter to Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.

There is no more information on that child’s condition.
