Grover the Groundhog Guesses at 1

groundhog day 2020

Schuylkill County’s weather forecasting groundhog, Grover, makes his winter prediction today at 1 p.m.

Grover emerges from his stump at Sweet Arrow Lake Park outside Pine Grove this afternoon to tell us if we’re getting an early Spring or an extended winter.

Groundhog Day 2020 – Grover the Groundhog Predicts Future

If Grover sees his shadow this afternoon, that means we’re getting an extended winter. Should Grover not see his shadow today on the banks of Sweet Arrow Lake, then it’s an early Spring.

Grover comes out at 1 p.m. It will be his Grover’s 14th year of predicting the weather on Groundhog Day.

It should be a nice day, relatively, for Groundhog Day festivities. Light showers are forecast with a temp near 40 on Sunday.

But there’s more to do than wait for some groundhog.

Groundhog Day festivities down at Sweet Arrow Lake start at 11 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. What’s on tap?

  • Potpie luncheon ($8 for adults, $6 for children under 12 – pay at the door, get there early)
  • Entertainment by Matthew Dodd
  • Chinese “Groundhog” Auction

Outside of the luncheon, all the activities at Sweet Arrow Lake today are free.

If you need more information prior to today’s event, call 570-345-8952. Otherwise, head to Sweet Arrow Lake Park outside Pine Grove. Take Route 443 and look for the signs for the county park. Or take Sweet Arrow Lake Road and turn at Waterfall Road until you reach the park.
