“Schuylkill County Helped to Build a Nation” is the theme for a bus tour coordinated by the Schuylkill County Conservancy and sponsored by Explore Schuylkill, Schuylkill County’s tourism bureau. The tour takes place on Saturday, June 13 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and costs $40, including lunch.
“Schuylkill County certainly has a colorful yet important heritage in making our country great,” Porcupine Pat McKinney, bus tour guide, organizer of the tour and board member of the conservancy, says. “You will see sites like the graves of the first Civil War casualty and George Washington’s drummer boy in addition to the Liberty Tree that is planted in Tamaqua.”
Other locations include: the Charles Baber Cemetery, the Schuylkill Canal, a memorial arboretum, a strip mine and more.
C & R Bus Company, of Saint Clair, will provide a comfortable motorcoach. Lunch will be on the road.
